In a news release Friday, the Christie Cookie Company announced a recall of various gift tins due to undeclared allergens on the labels.
Subject to recall are five “The Cookie by DoubleTree” product lines of cookie gift tins because known allergens egg, soy lecithin, wheat and milk are undeclared on the packaging. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to these allergens are at risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume these foods. To date, there have been no reported illnesses in connection with the undeclared allergens. The recall was initiated once it was discovered that the presence of the allergens was not declared on the outside of the cookie tin.
The cookie tins were sold nationwide to consumers at DoubleTree hotels and via direct mail order. The cookies come in a variety of metal containers, each containing 6 to 24 cookies. The phrase “The Cookie by DoubleTree” appears on the tins.
The affected products are: DoubleTree 6 (13.5 oz) Cookie Gift Tin; DoubleTree Anniversary Special, which contains two 6 Cookie Gift Tins (27 oz.); DoubleTree 12 (27 oz.) Cookie Gift Tin; DoubleTree 15 (33.75 oz.) Cookie Gift Tin; and DoubleTree 24 (54 oz.) Cookie Gift Tin.
I hope that no one has had an adverse reaction to the cookies. As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I encourage people with food allergies and sensitivities to stay safe and healthy by carefully reading food packaging and labels.
