In a news release Friday, modern furniture retailer EQ3 Ltd., announced in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that it is recalling a wooden and glass tables due to breakage issues that pose and injury risk to consumers.
Subject to recall are approximately 20 Scarpa table bases that may split and/or collapse, causing the glass tabletop to fall. The falling glass could injure consumers. EQ3, a Winnipeg, Canada-based company, is aware of at least four reports of the table base splitting or cracking, which caused the table top to slant or fall. There are no reported injuries.
The tables affected by the recall have three interlocking wooden legs that are either black or brown in color. The round tabletop is made of half inch-thick tempered glass. The table, which measures 30 inches high and 60 inches in diameter, displays model number “24396” and “Made In/Fabrique Au: China” on a label at the joint where the legs meet. There are five screw holes in the joint.
The recalled tables were sold nationwide from January 2011 through June 2011 at EQ3 stores for about $500. Any one who has purchased of one of the affected tables is urged to stop using the table immediately and contact EQ3 to arrange free pickup and exchange of the table or a full refund. All known purchasers of the table have been notified by EQ3 of the recall.
I hope that no one has been harmed through the use of this table. As a Fresno personal injury attorney, I encourage anyone who has purchased this table to arrange for a replacement or refund as soon as possible.
