The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into possible flaws in the fuel systems of 2011 Volkswagen Jettas in the wake of several consumer complaints, report news sources.
Seven complaints have reached the NHTSA’s Office of Defect Investigations from owners of VW Jettas outfitted with the 2.0L TDI diesel engine. The reports claim that the engine’s high-pressure fuel system leaks. The cars reported on have a vehicle mileage ranging from 2,370 to 7,760 miles. The ODI has also received a similar complaint regarding a 2011 Volkswagen Golf, which also has a 2.0L TDI engine. No information was reported as to what may be the cause of the alleged leaks.
Preliminary investigation into the alleged problem will determine the scope of the issue and may result in an official recall of both Jetta TDI and Sportwagen vehicles affected by the issue with the fuel system.
As a Los Angeles personal injury attorney, I encourage vehicle owners to stay on top of issues with their vehicles and to report those issues if need be. It helps keep companies accountable and consumers safe. I hope that the NHTSA is able to get to the bottom of this issue quickly and notify consumers if there is a more extensive issue.
