In a news release Friday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that Carriage Inc. is recalling certain recreational vehicle models due to a fire hazard.
Subject to recall are 596 5th wheel trailers including certain Cameo and Carri-Lite trailers from model years 2010 through 2011 and model year 2009 Domani trailers. All of the affected recreational vehicles are equipped with generator transfer switches that may either not be manufactured or installed according to specifications, posing the potential for excessive heat to build up in the switch. If the switch becomes hot enough, it can melt and catch fire.
The recall is expected to begin this month. Owners of the affected trailers can take the vehicles to a dealer where the trailer will be inspected and, if needed, repaired free of charge.
As a California truck accident lawyer, motorist safety is something that I am very aware of; I encourage owners of the recalled trailers to arrange for any needed repairs as soon as possible. Because of my experience as a product liability lawyer, I know that the effects of a faulty product can range from inconvenience and frustration to injury and sometimes death. I hope that no one has been harmed as a result of the generator transfer switch issue.
