The U.S Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited ExxonMobil for 22 violations of exposing workers to unsafe conditions, according to news sources.
The establishment fined was the petroleum refinery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. No one has been injured, but the company will have to pay fines totaling $126,600.
The violations include failing to investigate dangerous incidents, equipment repair, address inconsistent thickness measurements collected during pressure vessel inspections, maintain accurate and updated engineering drawings, and ensure that written operating procedures were certified as being current and accurate. All of these are considered serious violations, meaning that death could likely occur from a condition an employer knew or should have known about.
Other violations include inadequate emergency action plans and exposed electrical components.
About 2,100 workers are employed by the plant. The company will have 15 business days to fix the problems or contest the violations.
As a Los Angeles wrongful death attorney, safety in the workplace is very important to me, and I want you to know you have a right to feel safe in your workplace. If you or a loved one has been injured because of unsafe conditions, I suggest you seek medical attention right away. It can also be just as important to contact a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible because you may be entitled to monetary compensation as a result of being exposed to unsafe conditions. You should also remember that the law limits how long you have to file a case, so I advise you to act as soon as possible.
