The FDA has stopped a company from distributing amino acid products that they marketed as treatment for neurotransmitter diseases such as Parkinson’s And Alzheimer’s, according to news sources.
West Duluth Distribution subsidiaries CHK Nutrition and NeuroResearch Clinics were found to be selling products making unapproved claims in July 2010. Besides Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s the products also claimed to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and fibromyalgia.
The company was warned to remove the claims, but a review in February 2011 found that the company had failed to do so. The FDA has prohibited the company from selling the products until the claims are removed from their website.
As a product liability lawyer in Los Angeles, I’m glad to see the FDA holding companies responsible for the claims their products make. In my experience as a product defect lawyer, I’ve seen how important it is that a product fully disclose everything on their labeling, including various side effects. If you or someone you care about has taken a drug and been injured as a result of not being fully informed about your medication, you should contact a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer today.
