After receiving reports of engine fires and engines melting, John Deere is recalling 36,500 more lawn tractors due to a faulty cooling fan, according to news sources.
The products subject to recall are the X300, X300R and X304 models, all installed with Kawasaki engines. The cooling fan that is behind the burn hazard can stop working, which causes the plastic around it to overheat and potentially melt. The lawn tractors affected were sold between September 2010 and August 2011 for $3,000 to $4,000.
Total, 163 incidents were reported, and one of those was a minor burn injury.
If you’ve purchased one of these tractors, you can locate the serial number on the frame near the right tire on the front of the product. Consult the recall notice to see if your product has been recalled. If it is, you can contact a dealer to arrange for a replacement fan.
