In a news release Friday, Corvest Acquisition Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced the recall of LED night lights due to a burn hazard.
Subject to recall are approximately 10,000 LED night lights that have the potential to overheat, smolder and melt, which could lead to consumers suffering minor burns. Corvest Acquisition (now Carmsing Global LLC) has recieved five reports of the nightlights overheating, smoldering or melting. None of the reports included injuries.
The recalled lights were distributed from December 2010 through March 2011 by various companies as free promotional items displaying the company’s name. The night lights are about 1 3/4 inches wide and 3 3/4 inches tall. They have a white plastic base that displays the model number SBD01, the code E314462 and “Made in China.” The LED bulb is white or blue, and the bulb cover is clear.
Anyone in possession of the recalled night lights is urged to stop using them immediately and dispose of them.
As a product defect lawyer, consumer safety is something that I am very aware of; I hope that no one has been burned as a result of using the recalled night lights. Because of my experience as a product liability lawyer, I know that the effects of a faulty product can range from inconvenience and frustration to injury and sometimes death. I encourage anyone in possession of a recalled night light to safely dispose of it as soon as possible.
