Sanith Ourn Farm, based in Florida, has recalled their product Fresh Hot Basil herb due to a salmonella contamination fear, according to news reports.
The herb was distributed to retailers in Washington, Oregon, and Rhode Island on August 23rd and 30th. Three hundred and ninety pounds were shipped in ten pound containers that are marked with 8/23/11 and 8/30/11.
No illnesses have been reported. The pathogen was found by the Food and Drug Administration during routine testing.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometime life-threatening infections. Especially at risk are young children, the elderly, people with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting. If the pathogen is transported to the blood stream, arterial infections or arthritis could occur.
If you have purchased this product, do not use it. Return it to your store of purchase to receive a full refund.
As a Los Angeles product liability lawyer, I have seen food recalls like this one and know that, with as much testing goes into food products before manufacturers send them to market, mistakes can still be made. Although our personal injury law firm does not handle these type of cases there are food recall lawyers out there that can help your or a loved one if you have been effected by a recall such as this one.
