According to news recently published, the Texas-based company Whittington’s Jerky Inc. has issued a recall of their popular products due to an alleged Salmonella contamination. Over 120 pounds of beef jerky has possibly been contaminated after an infected sample was discovered in the process of a routine testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The recalled products include 2oz packages of the Whittington’s Original Beef Jerky and the 4oz packages of the same product. The items that might have been affected by the contamination carry the production date as being Oct. 31, 2011.
As far we have heard from the many news sources, the products were distributed only to convenience stores in West Texas.
As a Los Angeles wrongful death lawyer, I hope that no consumer will be infected with salmonella. This dangerous bacterium causes one of the most severe food borne illnesses in humans. Fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea are a few of the symptoms. In persons who happen to have a weak immune system, salmonellosis may have fatal consequences.
Whenever a contaminated product threatens your life and you feel like you were the victim of a careless company policy, don’t hesitate to contact a product liability lawyer right away.
