According to recent articles from the FDA, reports show that Golden Glen Creamery has issued a voluntary recall of their Raw Cheddar product. The Washington State-based company has stated that their raw cheddar might be potentially contaminated with an organism called Listeria monocytogenes that can cause fatal infections in children, persons with a weak immune system and elderly people.
Healthy people when infected will suffer from severe headaches, fever, nausea, stiffness, diarrhea and abdominal pain. The company has allegedly claimed that there have been no reports regarding any listeria infection related to the consumption of their products.
The recalled products were distributed through some select retail stores in the State of Washington, the Golden Glen’s on-farm store has displayed the item for sale as well between September 22nd and November 5th. The product has a label in which we may read ‘Raw Cheddar’, ‘Natural handcrafted cheese produced by the Jensen ladies.’ and ‘GOLDEN GLEN CREAMERY’. The three digit code in the back of the package reads 864.
After the Washington State Department of Agriculture performed an analysis of a sample of the product, officials stated that tests were positive for Listeria contamination. Golden Glen Creamery has ceased to distribute the product.
