There was a recall issued for vehicles manufactured by the Daimler Buses early this morning according to news sources. The Hybrid Orion VII LI-ION line of buses manufactured between July 2008 and August 2011 and the Orion line from May 2006 through May 2007 all presented problems with their Lithium Ion Energy Storage System, known as ESS.
The company has reported that debris can be accumulated inside the LI-ION storage system and prevent the proper functioning of the vehicle. Moisture will also build up against the debris, which leads to a bigger problem for the high voltage battery pack.
The unintentional discharge of the energy storage in the battery is one of the consequences traced back to the vehicle’s defects and could possibly cause a fire.
Orion reports that owners will be contacted and their vehicles will be fully repaired by the BAE Systems without any charge. The recall begins during the month of January 2012. Contact the company or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline so any other questions related to this recall may be answered in a timely manner.
As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer I understand that commuters should always be attentive to any sign of malfunctioning related to the buses they take daily to go back and forth in the City. Don’t delay in contacting a personal injury lawyer if you are involved in a situation that may pose as a threat to your health regarding the liability of a vehicle.
