According to news sources, General Motors says that it would consider a recall of its Chevrolet Volt vehicles by buying them back from consumers after reports of the vehicles battery catching on fire in collisions.
The news comes amid an ongoing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that began on November 25. Three vehicle batteries reportedly caught on fire in government crash tests designed to probe the issue further.
There are about 6,000 Chevrolet Volt vehicles currently on the road and GM has stated that they would recall and repair all the vehicles once the problem behind the batteries catching on fire is identified.
GM has stated that the company is unlikely to meet its previous goal of selling 10,000 Chevrolet Volt vehicles before years end.
