The Hydro-Gear LLP has issued a recall for several models of lawn tractors sold from January 2011 to January 2012 due to a risk of brake failure. A defective gear in the hydrostatic transaxle of certain tractor models can cause the brakes to cease functioning, thus endangering the operator.
The recall affects the Troy-Bilt, MTD Gold, and Cub Cadet models of lawn tractor fitted with Hydro-Gear transaxles numbered 618-0319 and 618-04270B. While only a single Troy-Bilt model number – 13WQ92KP066 – and a single MTD Gold model number — 13AP925P004 – are affected by the recall, eleven different Cub Cadet model numbers are affected. MTD Gold tractors affected have serial numbers beginning with 1L15 or 1L16. The affected Troy-Bilt and Cub Cadet tractors were manufactured from December of 2010 to March of 2011. The date of manufacture is printed on the underside of the tractor’s seat. The recalled transaxles all feature serial numbers with the first four digits between 0333 and 0348. A label affixed to the transaxle details its serial number and model designation.
Owners of affected tractor models should discontinue use and contact Hydro-Gear for information about licensed repair centers.
