The Kawasaki Motors Corporation of Irvine, California has issued a voluntary recall for several models of its utility vehicles because they pose a fire hazard. The vehicles’ fuel tubes can create friction with the housing unit for the air cleaner, possibly causing holes to form in the tube and increasing the risk of a fire.
The vehicles affected by the recall were released in 2012. They are off-road four four-wheeled utility vehicle with two-person, side-by-side seating and controls modeled after an automobiles. They feature a roll-over protection design, a cargo bed, and bench seating, and are available in camouflage, black, and red. The model names and numbers of the affected vehicles are as follows: Mule 600, model number KAF400BCF; MULE 610 4×4, model number KAF400ACF; and MULE 610 4×4 XC, model number KAF400DCF or KAF400ECF. The model name appears on the side of the vehicle’s front cowl, and the model number is printed on a label affixed to the underside of the front seat, which can be flipped up. These utility vehicles were sold at Kawasaki dealers across the United States from June 2011 to February 2012 for a cost of $6,700 to $8,200.
