Spartan Chassis Incorporated has announced a voluntary recall of 13 of its chasses due to a potential for brake failure. Affected chasses comprise the Spartan K2 and Spartan MG models produced between December 15, 2011 and January 31, 2012. These chasses come equipped with 3030 brake chambers. This model of brake chamber has been found to violate the requirements set forth by the federal government regarding air brake systems. The parking brake and draw bar do not meet United States safety standards.
The parking brake is at risk of failing, allowing the vehicle to move unexpectedly, potentially causing an accident resulting in damage to people or property. Spartan has not determined a start date for its recall program as of this time, but after the chassis manufacturer notifies consumers, owners affected by this recall will have their vehicles repaired by Spartan Chassis. The company will remove the 3030 brake chambers and replace them with brake chambers that meet federal safety guidelines. Consumers concerned about this recall can contact Spartan for more information. They can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline.
