Motor Coach Industries Incorporated has issued a voluntary recall for more than 550 units of its motor coaches because of a manufacturing defect that can cause the rear windows to become detached from the vehicle frame. Motor coaches manufactured in model years between 2009 and 2012 potentially pose a personal injury or property damage risk due to an inadequate bonding affixing the transom or rearmost side window to the motor coach frame.
Without warning, the transom window may detach from the motor coach, causing bodily harm or damaging property in the immediate vicinity. Motor coaches affected by this recall bear model number J4500.
The recall is scheduled to begin in April of 2012. Motor Coach Industries will begin informing owners of affected motor coaches, who will be instructed to return the vehicles to the dealership where their transom windows will be fitted with mechanical retention clips, which should more securely attach the windows to the motor coach frame at no cost to the consumer.
