Yet another item is being recalled because of the detrimental effect it could have on consumer safety.
This time, the recall was announced by the Columbus, Ohio-based Big Lots and concerns a product known as the Climate Keeper ceramic heater. These portable space heaters, some of which oscillated, were produced in China and imported to the United States, where they were sold exclusively at Big Lots retail locations. The stationary item has a model number of #FH107A while the oscillating version has a model number of #PTC-902T. These numbers can be found on the bottom of the unit.
70,500 heaters in total are affected by the defect that necessitated the recall. This defect involves the heaters’ propensity to get too hot while in use, to the point where the unit itself can start to melt, posing a fire hazard as well as a shock hazard should certain components become exposed. Already, four melting reports have come to the company’s attention, although there were thankfully no injuries or fires in those instances.
The items cost $20 and $25 depending on the version of the item. They were sold between September 2010 and March of this year. Anyone with this product in their possession is being advised to cease using the heater. They can bring it back to any Big Lots and get their money back.
