A number of recreational vehicles are being recalled because they could endanger anyone inside as well as other motorists on the road.
The recall was announced by Thor Motor Coach and concerns two types of RVs: the Outlaw and the Avanti. The Outlaws were of model years between 2008 and 2010 and the Avanti vehicle will have been from model year 2011. 90 units in total are potentially affected by the defect that initiated the recall, and each of the RVs in question was produced between January 24, 2008 and September 28, 2010.
Each of the aforementioned vehicles have hydraulic disc brakes from Bosch installed inside of them. Should the chassis containing these brakes not be driven for an extended period of time, then defects could become apparent in the pistons, and these defects might potentially lead to overheating and brake drag. This in turn would lead the brakes to not function properly, putting the RV in danger of facing a crash situation.
Freightliner, the makers of the affected chassis, plan to get in touch with affected owners to inform them of the problem. At that time, consumers will be able to bring the RVs in to a dealer to receive free repairs. As of right now, there is no word on when this notice will be sent out or what the specific remedy is going to entail.
