A number of trailers are being recalled because of their potential to endanger consumers.
The recall was announced by Tracker Marine, and concerns their Trailstar Tahoe and Trailstar Nitro boat trailers with model years of either 2012 or 2013. There are a total of 589 vehicles that are encompassed by this recall, and each of these units will have been produced between September 28 of last year and this past May 13.
A defect could present itself in the brake actuator shell of these trailers. A bracket welded to this component might vary from design specifications, and this variance could lead the master cylinder shaft rod’s range of motion to be limited. Overheating could then manifest where the brakes meet the wheels, and this built-up heat could compromise the brakes’ ability to stop the trailers. This would necessarily pose a risk of a crash taking place.
Owners can expect to receive some kind of alert from Tracker Marine. These notices should start going out at the beginning of next month. Once notification has been received, affected consumers will be able to bring their trailers in to a dealer, who has been tasked with installing a new brake actuator that doesn’t have the defect. These services will be performed without cost to the consumer.
