A certain bath exhaust fan sold exclusively by Lowe’s has been recalled because of a product defect and the threat it poses to consumer safety.
Background
The Harbor Breeze Bath Fans with Heater and Light are being recalled. The item was imported from China by the Lincolnshire, Illinois-based Homewerks Worldwide and sold throughout the country. The product is 11 by 17 inches and has a model number of 7109-01-L, an item number of 194492, and its UPC is 820633985358. 68,000 fans in total fall within the purview of the recall.
Consumers should cease use immediately
Consumers with this particular model should cease use immediately, as a defect in the fan’s blades can cause it to overheat, possibly causing smoke or flames. The blades don’t rotate the way that they should, creating the aforementioned danger. This has already happened in 11 reported instances, and in three of those cases, the issue reportedly caused property damage.
What to do
Anyone with this model may contact Delta Electronics Dongguan, the manufacturer, to make plans for a repair to be carried out at no cost. A service technician should be able to come out and take care of the issue.
The fans were sold for about $90 between September 2010 and this past March. Until such time that the fan can be fixed, don’t use or even turn the items on.
