A number of strollers are being recalled due to the danger that they could pose to children.
The recall was announced by Kolcraft Enterprises, a company based out of Chicago, Illinois. It concerns the Contours Options four and three wheeled strollers. Five model numbers in total are affected: ZL002, ZL005, ZL008, ZL015, and ZL018. They come in a variety of colors and were produced in China between January 2006 and November 2009. A whopping 36,000 units are being recalled from around the country, with an additional 270 currently residing in Canada.
These strollers have a hinge mechanism that goes into action when a parent or guardian attempts to adjust the handlebars. Unfortunately, when being used, the mechanism creates an opening that a child could stick his or her fingers into, posing a danger that a laceration or an amputation could occur. Three children have suffered a finger amputation already, and even three adults had their fingers cut or smashed in the opening.
These strollers were sold at a number of retail outlets across the country between January 2006 and this month, as well as at the online stores of Toys R Us, Target, and Amazon. They cost from $150 to $160.
Anyone with this stroller in their possession should cease placing their child into it at once and get in touch with Kolcraft to obtain a repair kit at no charge.
