Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Nougat Crunch Ice Cream is being voluntarily recalled by Unilever because it is missing a statement warning consumers about the potential threat of allergens. Thankfully, no illnesses have been reported as of yet, but people who are allergic to tree nuts or peanuts or who are sensitive to these allergens might have a reaction if they eat the recalled ice cream. The allergen advisory statement should state that there was a possibility of allergen contamination due to the manufacturing of certain ingredients of the ice cream on equipment that’s also involved in the production of peanuts.
The items being recalled were available at retail outlets all across the country, where they were sold in pint-sized containers. Each of the containers has 7684020899 as its UPC code, but date codes range from July 11 of next year through October 23 of next year. These date codes can be identified by examining the bottom of the pint. The flavor was also available in ice cream shops that serve Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, but those 2.4 gallon container versions of the product are not affected by the recall.
Anyone who owns the item in question is being asked to scoop out any remaining ice cream and to rinse out the container so that there’s no more ice cream present. Consumers can then remove the UPC and date codes of the item and call the company to get a coupon for another product.
