It’s fairly unusual for numerous defects to be discovered within one vehicle, but that’s exactly what happened with the Chevrolet Cruze.
Earlier, I reported to you news about a recall that was initiated on the Chevy Cruze because of a defect concerning the fuel tank straps in these vehicles. Now, General Motors has announced the recall of 413,148 additional Chevy Cruze automobiles of the 2011 and 2012 model years. Each of the vehicles that suffer from this latest safety defect would have been produced between October 2, 2009 and the end of last month.
The issue has to do with the bellypan, otherwise known as the engine shield. When a consumer goes to get an oil change, or should some other event transpire which has the propensity to lead to dripping oil, the oil can drip onto the bellypan. Because this liquid would then collect near surfaces that have become heated due to the engine or exhaust system, both the oil and the bellypan could be set ablaze. Should this happen, a fire could break out in the engine compartment, putting motorists in danger of injury or even death.
July 11 marks the date when the recall is slated to begin. At that time, vehicle owners can expect to receive a notice from GM. Consumers will be able to bring their Cruze in to a dealer to get engine shield modifications conducted. Those versions of the car that have a manual transmission will also get additional repairs.
