A food item is being recalled because of the threat it could pose to the safety of the consumer.
The recall was announced by Leasa Industries, a company based out of Miami, Florida, and concerns their LEASA Living Alfalfa Sprouts. 433 cases in total could have been compromised by the safety issue that prompted the recall. Each of the items in question comes in a plastic container that is six ounces in size and has a UPC of 75465-55912 and a use by date of July 2 of this year.
The recall was initiated once it was discovered during a customer sample test that the product tested positive for salmonella. To persons who suffer from a weakened immune system, as well as young children and the elderly, salmonella can lead to a serious infection and might even be deadly. Even healthy people need to take caution, as they are also at risks of such things as diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and a fever. Should salmonella reach the bloodstream, conditions like arthritis and endocarditis become possible.
Leasa is asking anyone who might be in possession of the item to discard it into a trash bin at once. They are also asking grocers to remove the aforementioned versions of the product from store shelves.
Thankfully, no one has reportedly gotten ill in conjunction with this safety issue.
