Another series of vehicles is being recalled because of the danger they pose to motorists’ safety.
Toyota announced the recall, which concerns the Lexus RX350 and RX450H automobiles of the 2010 model year. Each of the units being recalled was made between November 8, 2008 and September 1, 2010. A staggering 154,036 vehicles could potentially suffer from the defect that necessitated the recall.
That defect involves a potentially faulty gas pedal. An unsecured or possibly incompatible floor mat inside the Lexus might lead this gas pedal to get trapped in the “accelerate” position. Were this to occur, the driver could lose control of the vehicle’s speed and it could go out of control, reaching excessive speeds rather quickly. This would necessarily entail a heightened crash risk and all the attendant injuries or fatalities that come with that.
Lexus has stated their intention to get in contact with owners of the affected vehicles. They should be reaching out to customers after this month. Once that notice is received, owners will be able to bring their Lexus into a dealer to receive the necessary repairs. This will involve a modification or outright replacement of the gas pedal and a replacement of the floor mat as necessary. All of this will be conducted without cost to the consumer.
