Tickets for texting while driving are being written in droves in New York a year after the Governor signed a bill in response to several fatalities involving teens texting while driving. The law in question allows police officers to pull over people suspected of texting while on the road. Before the new law, texting behind the wheel was classified as a secondary offense, meaning that to issue a ticket, a driver must be guilty of another offense, such as erratic driving. Since the change, 20,000 citations have been handed out.
