Senate Bill 1464 is on its way to the California Assembly, where it will soon be up for a vote. If passed into law, the bill would require drivers in the state to give people on bicycles a three foot cushion when they attempt to pass such commuters on the road. The law would encompass any time such a situation occurs on a two lane highway where the conveyances are traveling in the same direction. Violators would be slapped with a $220 citation. Not everyone is enthused; the governor squashed a similar bill in 2011.
