An increase in citations and warnings for pedestrian safety violations has led police in Billings, Montana to crack down on persons who disobey crosswalk laws. The first six months of 2012 have seen the number of tickets issued rise by 23%, even as actual accident statistics remain relatively stagnant. Throughout July, officers were on-hand downtown to issue citations to those who jaywalked or otherwise disregarded the law. 14 warnings were doled out in one day alone. School zones are being targeted now as kids head back to class.
