Sudden Infant Death Syndrome remains a problem across the country. While no one knows what causes it, there are certain measures that a parent can take to ward off tragedy. The Alabama Baby Coalition advises parents to make sure that they always put the baby to bed on their back in their own sleeping surface. Other preventative measures include keeping the baby at the correct temperature, using only fitted sheets and not leaving the child with items that could cover the baby’s face. A firm mattress should also be used.
