The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated the Volvo S60 as one of the two safest cars for occupants during a front-end collision. The agency rated the cars based on a collision test in which the vehicles crashed into an object meant to simulate something like a tree, a pole, or another automobile. The cars traveled at 40 miles per hour and had a Hybrid III crash test dummy in the driver’s seat.
