Dodge Dakota and Ram 1500 trucks of the 2009 and 2010 model years are being recalled by Chrysler. 44,300 vehicles suffer from a defect wherein poor adhesion could lead to the loosening of a pinion nut on the rear axle. This could cause the axle itself to lock into place, leading the driver to lose control of the vehicle, thus potentially leading to a crash. Owners will receive word from Chrysler in November, at which point they’ll be able to bring the vehicles in for free repairs.
