Three different types of motorcoaches are being recalled because of the threat they could pose to consumer safety.
Van Hool announced the recall, and they will be getting in touch with consumers through ABC Bus, their agent in the United States. The recall pertains to T2140, T2145, and C2405 motorcoaches of the 2011 and 2012 model years. 138 coaches are affected by the recall, and each of these vehicles was produced between September 2010 and September 2011.
These motorcoaches contain a Prestolite AC172 alternator within their Daimler DD13 engine. Unfortunately, this alternator does not contain ground cables that would help to ensure safety. As such, internal corrosion could take place, which would lead to parts of the alternator overheating. If this overheating reaches a certain level, melting of parts could occur within the alternator, which might then lead to smoke and even a fire. Should that take place, people inside the vehicle would be put at risk.
Owners of affected vehicles should be contacted starting this Sunday. Once contact is made, affected consumers will be able to bring their motorcoaches in to a dealer to obtain the necessary repairs. This will consist of the installation of external ground cables on the affected alternators. All of this will be done at no cost to the consumer.
