Officials in the state of Massachusetts want to cut down on the number of fatalities that occur along train tracks. Massachusetts Bay Commuter Rail already stresses pedestrian and rail crossing safety through an initiative called Operation Lifesaver, and numerous other programs have been created to further stress the importance of safety. Samaritans of Boston has put up signs dissuading people from committing suicide on the tracks, and more such signs could go up soon. Seven people have died this year in the state after being hit by a train.
