The possibility that products could contain allergens without the labels detailing as much has led to the recall of said items.
Numerous items are affected by the recall that was initiated by Tropical Valley Foods, and each product is a type of Trail Mix, Dark Chocolate, or Organic Dark Chocolate. In the case of the trail mix, the items may have undeclared wheat, soy, or tree nuts. In the instances of the dark chocolate products, undeclared soy might be contained within (two dark chocolate pretzels products might contain soy and wheat). As such, any consumer sensitive to these items would be put at risk.
An inspection by the Food and Drug Administration identified the labeling error that led to bulk versions of the items not specifying the apparent allergen threat. Each affected item was distributed between September 26 of last year and September 25 of this year. The items were available all across the country, including right here in California.
Thankfully, nobody has reported becoming ill due to the consumption of one of these items at this time. Persons wishing to learn more about the allergy risks associated with these items are being asked to bring the food back to the store. Tropical Valley Foods can be contacted directly for those who have questions or concerns.
