11,200 Scion IQ vehicles of the 2012 and 2013 model years have been recalled by Toyota. The recall was initiated because of a defect that might occur when the passenger moves their seat backwards and forwards. Should this happen in sufficient amounts, then the occupant sensor would be compromised due to the damage that might occur in the cables of this component. If the sensor doesn’t realize a passenger is thus in the seat, then neither the seatbelt pretensioner nor the passenger airbags would go off should a crash take place. At some point in December, owners can expect to receive word of the issue. They’ll then be able to bring the vehicles to a dealer for free repairs.
