Approximately 220,000 PeaPod Plus and PeaPod Travel Beds have been recalled by the Libertyville, Illinois-based KidCo because the beds could pose a suffocation hazard to child occupants. Meant to be used by young children up to around the age of three, the items are basically tiny tents with an inflatable mattress that goes beneath the child. However, there apparently exists a danger that a child could roll off this mattress and become trapped against the side of the tent; a suffocation risk is thus posed. Nine entrapment or distress reports have come to the attention of Health Canada and the CPSC, and one fatality which occurred inside the death has been reported, although the cause of death in that instance is unknown. The tents, which were available across the country, should not be used until they can be fixed using a free kit from KidCo.
