5-Hour Energy is the latest energy product to fall under the scrutiny of the Food and Drug Administration. The agency is looking into 13 death reports that are alleged to have occurred after a user was exposed to 5-Hour Energy. In addition, 30 people have reportedly been hospitalized following consumption, and 90 reports of adversity have been filed. It’s thought that adults are able to handle up to 400 milligrams of caffeine safely, higher than the couple hundred milligrams that Consumer Reports alleges can be found in 5-Hour Energy; however, children, pregnant women, and persons with heart conditions might be more at risk of suffering an incident. The FDA has also launched an investigation into fatalities reportedly tied to Monster Energy.
