An initiative that advises motorists “Phone in one hand ticket in the other” has been in full force throughout the state of Delaware. The Office of Highway Safety partnered with law enforcement entities through the state to support the program, which found additional officers patrolling the roads and signs extolling the virtues of refraining from using a cellphone behind the wheel. For the past two weeks, an NHTSA grant allowed the effort to continue, and now that it’s at a close, drivers can expect similar measures to go into effect in April and June of next year. The number of people pulled over during the campaign was expected to go up when compared with normal operations, but the hope is that the message was strong enough that the number of people engaged in the habit would go down.
