A scuba diving product is being recalled because it could fail underwater just when it’s needed the most.
Three companies have come together to announce the recall that pertains to three hoses of varying sizes under different brand names. Affected hoses come under the name Mesh Flex or Phantom; the brand, though, is found not on the hose itself but on the package it came in. The importers behind the recall are Trident Diving Equipment, A-Plus Marine, and Innovative Scuba Concepts. 1,900 of the 2,590 recalled hoses are recalled by Innovative, with the other two companies responsible for the recall of the remaining items.
These hoses, which were imported from Taiwan, could sustain a rupture while being used underwater. This rupture, if it were to take place, might lead the air going to the diver to be reduced considerably, which would necessarily lead to a potential drowning threat if the diver can’t get to the surface in time or find an alternative air source. Nine instances of a burst have been reported, but thankfully, nobody was injured in those circumstances.
Consumers are being asked to cease using the items until such time that they can get in touch with the above mentioned companies, who will make a replacement unit available. These hoses were available across the country at scuba stores between August of last year and August of this year.
