It’s been awhile since numerous peanut and peanut butter products were recalled because of their potential to have sustained a Salmonella contamination. When the issue was discovered, the Portales, New Mexico-based Sunland Inc. suspended operations at their processing plant so that safety could be ensured in the future. The company is now biding its time while the Food and Drug Administration decides whether the plant has addressed safety concerns and is fit to be reopened. There is currently no estimate as to when production will resume, and in the meantime, Valencia peanuts being brought in for processing have been put into storage.
