Back in June 2011, new standards in regards to the safety of cribs were passed. The law was meant to ensure that new products met the rigorous standards in place to protect young children from defects that can be presented by certain items. Among other things, the law sought to create improvements pertaining to slats, mattress supports, better hardware, and better testing methods. Drop-side cribs were outlawed entirely. Now, care centers are approaching the imposed deadline to get rid of items that didn’t meet the new standards. On December 28, day cares, hotels, rental companies, and other facilities that offer childcare services will be required to offer only those cribs that have been proven safe under the new rules.
