Fire Hazard Prompts Recall of 3,900 Bearcat Snowmobiles

Posted on December 20, 2012

Snow has fallen across various parts of the country today, which could bring many people who suddenly find themselves with the day off out into the elements.  Many such people may engage in some recreational snowmobiling.  If you’re one such person, then make sure you stay safe and that you’re not in possession of one of the recalled snowmobiles detailed below.

The Thief River Falls, Minnesota-based Arctic Cat announced the recall, which concerns Bearcat snowmobiles of the 2013 model year.  Affected units include the Bearcat Z1XT, Z1XT GS, Z1 XT LTD, and 570 XT and 570 WT.  It all adds up to a total of 3,900 potentially defective units.

It might seem ironic, but the snowmobiles are being recalled because they could pose a fire hazard.  This stems from a defect wherein fuel can leak out of the attached tank.  It’s believed that damage which occurred during manufacturing led to the issue, which was discovered when three dealerships that set up the snowmobiles spotted a leak.  None of those situations led to a fire.

The snowmobiles, which were available across the country between May and October of this year, should not be used, no matter how tempting the elements may be.  Instead, one should contact a dealer to set up a free repair.
