The potential for a Clostridium botulinum contamination has led to the recall of numerous fish products available in both Illinois and right here in California. The Kenosha, Wisconsin-based True Taste has announced the recall, which concerns Cold and Hot Smoked Mackerel and Whitefish and Hot Smoked Rainbow Trout, Herring, and Salmon Steak. In California, these items will be sold under the True Taste Label. If exposed to the contamination, consumers can experience dizziness, breathing difficulty, and other symptoms commonly associated with botulism. No one has reported such an illness yet. The fish should not be eaten and instead should be returned for a refund.
