A wide-ranging automobile recall has been issued by General Motors for a problem that could compromise safety during your holiday travels. Be sure to educate yourself if you or someone you know owns one of these vehicles.
The recall affects Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon automobiles of the 2010 through 2012 model years that were produced between November 2009 and August of this year. 118,800 vehicles in total are being recalled by GM because of a lack of adherence to federal regulations. This failure could severely compromise the driver’s ability to see the road in front of him or her.
Specifically, there’s a chance that these vehicles might not have a secondary latch on the hood. If this is indeed the case, the vehicles would be brought out of compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that pertains to Hood Latch Systems. Although this would typically not pose a problem, it would become an issue should the primary latch not be adequately activated. If this leads to the hood being thrust upward while the vehicle is in motion, a crash risk is posed.
On January 17, owners should begin to hear about the issue from GM. Such persons will be asked to check their vehicles for the necessary latch. If it can’t be found, then the automobiles should be brought in for a new hood that will be provided at no cost to vehicle owners.
