When ones goes in for a surgical procedure, they generally are of the mind that doctors won’t leave equipment inside of them. Such errors do happen, but those errors may pale in comparison to the situation of a German man who was discovered to have had an astounding 16 items left inside of his body following surgery. It wasn’t until a nurse noticed gauze protruding from a wound that the issue was detected. Two ensuing surgeries led to doctors removing such things as swabs, bandages, part of a surgical mask, and even a needle. The man later died from cancer. The family is suing the hospital for $121,000, but the hospital contends that the items somehow made their way into the man during the post-surgical period.
