The impact of a flu outbreak continues to be felt across the country. In Dallas, keeping up with the flood of prescriptions has proved a daunting task as sick persons continue to seek treatment, and shortages of flu shots have begun to affect a clinic in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The issue has gotten so serious that the Kiefer Public School District in Oklahoma has had to shut down classes for the day so that the illness-plagued student body can rest up for a few days. Of the 650 students that comprise the district, a whopping 150 have succumbed to influenza. That state has seen eight fatalities since the beginning of September alone. Hospitalizations are the norm as well, with 92 such check-ins in the weeklong timespan between January 2 and 8.
