It might be March, but certain parts of California could still be privy to a snowstorm. As such, people might be pulling out their snowblowers to clear their driveways and sidewalks. But if you own one of the following units, it’s important to heed the directives of this important safety recall.
The Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Briggs & Stratton Corporation announced the recall, which concerns two foot wide Ariens Snow-Thro snow blowers. These orange and black items will have a serial number between 100,000 and 119,039 and a model number of 920014. The snow blowers were available for sale across the country at the Home Depot and various other dealers of Ariens products. They cost between $800 and $1,000 when they were on sale this past August and September.
On 5,400 or so of these snow blowers, gas can leak due to inadequacies with the carburetor bowl nut. This could inhibit a user’s ability to properly clear their driveway, and a fire hazard becomes a distinct possibility if an open flame is in the vicinity of the leaked fuel.
Thankfully, no one has reported experiencing an incident at this point in time. To make sure you don’t fall prey to this potential defect, you might want to opt for a good old-fashioned shovel if you experience a snowstorm anytime soon. Bring the snow blower to a dealer as soon as you can, at which point free repairs will be provided.
