The Napa Fire Department recently sent a contingent of members to a Senior Activity Center in Napa Valley to field questions and provide tips on staying safe in the event of an emergency, and some of the advice would hold true anywhere. The officials stressed the importance of calling 911 in the event of any kind of emergency. They also advised attendees to be patient as the responder asks the necessary questions. Callers should always take pains to provide the address of the emergency so that rescue workers know where to go.
Seniors were provided with other tips as well. They were advised to keep an electronic file on hand detailing requisite medications, and emphasis was also placed on eliminating potential grease fires. Such fires should be smothered instead of splashed with water, as this can exacerbate the problem.
