Smoked and Pickled Herring have each been recalled by the Little Mermaid Smoke House because there’s a possibility that they could pose a Botulism threat. These fish were reportedly not eviscerated properly, and as a result, those parts of the fish that typically are susceptible to a contamination by Clostridium botulinum may still be found on the product. In such instances, there would not necessarily be any indication that the condition is present. The recall pertains to those products sold until April 4 in California. No one has reportedly sustained an illness at this time, but consumers in possession of the fish should bring the item back for a refund.
